‘Fog in the Wheel’ is Virginia Walcott’s second solo exhibition in New Orleans. Premiering four new video works, three soundscapes, and a series of sculptural assemblages, Walcott captures the darkness, humor, and emptiness that arises from the reward mechanisms of capitalism. Reflecting on topics like labor, fame, anxiety, and individualism, she leans on the legacies of dadaism and surrealism to blur and disrupt the notion of seamless systems and well-oiled wheels. ‘Fog in the Wheel’ is a droll ode to the ubiquity and strangeness of our current condition, a balancing act of the sincere and absurd.

Virginia Walcott (she/her) is an artist, designer, and filmmaker from the Gulf Coast of Alabama. In her practice, she uses video, installation, and multidisciplinary applications to play with and reframe the realities of modern life. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016, she worked as a Designer and Video Producer for The Atlantic and a Visual Editor for Scalawag Magazine beforelaunching her own creative studio. She lives in New Orleans where she teaches at various art centers and is an active member of Staple Goods, a cooperatively-run gallery in the St. Roch neighborhood.
